Republicans Express Confidence In House Leadership Going Into Next Congress

Published on

Many House Republicans expressed confidence that they would lead the next Congress, with control of the House in jeopardy.

Fox News Digital asked the congressional Republicans to rate their confidence in leadership, on a scale from 1-10

The House leadership received high marks from several GOP members who were asked. Their scores ranged between 9 and 10.

Fox News Digital was informed by Tim Burchett (Republican from Tennessee), that he supports the GOP leadership.

“A ten,” Burchett said. “Absolutely. We’re going to do well, I believe. We are going through some growing pains at the moment. It’s like the dog who chases the bus: What will you do when it catches you? We did catch it and that’s what the growing pains are. We will figure it out.”

Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.) gave the same rating to his Tennessee counterpart.

He declared, “I believe it’s a 10.” “We will elect Kevin McCarthy Speaker of the House. We’re going elect Steve Scalise and we will have an exciting race for the whip.”

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) also agreed with the “10” rating and told Fox News Digital that he liked the GOP leadership.

He said, “I like their leadership.” “I believe they worked very hard over the past two years and I think they have earned a place in the majority of the leadership position.”

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) also gave a high rating. He told Fox News Digital that he was at a nine and half.

Patrick McHenry, North Carolina GOP Rep. said “Ten”.

Ronny Jackson (Republican from Texas) also weighed in and said he was at a number “nine”.

Jackson stated, “I feel pretty confident right now.” “Leader McCarthy soon-to-be Speaker McCarthy has a few weeks left to speak to members with issues. He’ll be fine, I believe.

These high marks are due to the fact that some Republicans are not thrilled with Republican leadership. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla) continues to stand by his vow not vote for House GOP Leader McCarthy, the House speaker.

Gaetz stated, “Right now, we need leadership.” We need to change the page. We need someone who is credible with both conservatives, centrists, and moderates across the Congress. Kevin, as we have seen, doesn’t possess that.

The GOP officially nominated McCarthy to be the next speaker.

Rep. Chip Roy (Republican from Texas) stated that his “position remains unchanged until further notice — No one has 218 (or as close as possible, depending on what is needed)”

He said, “We must sit down and make the fundamental changes necessary.”

While Republicans are generally supportive of McCarthy as speaker, Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is being challenged by Sen. Rick Scott, Florida.

Although it is unlikely that Scott will challenge McConnell for the GOP Leader spot, the challenge shows that some members of the Republican caucus want a change in leadership. Missouri senator Josh Hawley stated last week that he believes we need new leadership.

“I don’t know if any other senators will run. No one has indicated that they will. However, I believe that we need new leadership to fill that role,” Hawley stated last week before Scott made his announcement.
