U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents working in a Washington area near the Canadian border found two backpacks containing cocaine valued at $1.1 million.

Near the border of Lynden, two black backpacks, weighing 78 pounds, were found by agents on patrol in Blaine Sector (Washington), about 110 miles north-east of Seattle.

When the agents opened it they found “30 bricks-like packets that contained a powdery, white substance.” The substance was later tested and determined to be cocaine.

Rosario Vasquez, Chief Patrol Agent at Border Patrol in Blaine Sector, said: “These dangerous narcotics couldn’t reach our communities due to the vigilance of Border Patrol agents. Our agents are committed to protecting our country, and this seizure shows their dedication.”

According to officials, the drugs were immediately handed over by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The authorities have not disclosed how the bags were delivered, who they belonged to, or whether there had been any arrests related to this case.

The investigation is ongoing.
